Case Study Alfie

Updated: Jul 5, 2025

Update - Alfie has found a new home :)

Background: Unknown but Alfie is a 2-year-old male.

Assessment on walk: Alfie was so patient while we tried around 5 harnesses to find one that would fit. Alfie is only a little dog, and I don’t have a ramp and so lifted him into the car crate so that I could take him off site. Once at the local woods Alfie had a moment to process the car park, we had not moved far when Alfie spotted 2 black labradors 10 metres away heading in our direction, both on lead but one was very aroused and on hind legs. Considering Alfie’s dinky size, he can move at some speed on the longline and decided he was off! This is awesome as Alfie himself decided to disengage brilliant independent decision making. Not long after Alfie was quite happy to stop, sniff, mark, doggy garden aka kick ground up and just engage in natural dog behaviours. Later in the walk, there was a lady with 2 small dogs heading towards us some 10 meters away, I took a side path to provide more distance and faced us away so that the dogs could pass. Interestingly, once the lady had passed, Alfie turned towards the dogs and stared, seemingly struggling to disengage after a moment I faced towards the opposite direction and Alfie happily followed.

Potential adopter: Alfie is discerning when it comes to dogs so dog introductions should be done carefully.  Alfie needs to be gradually introduced to everyday life and strangers as he has been living in a small bubble. His adopter needs to be patient but will be completely rewarded by this affectionate little dog who snuggled up to me.
